The Machame route, also known as the "Whiskey" route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. It offers a unique combination of scenic beauty and a high success rate due to the "climb high, sleep low" profile.

7-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
1,800m to 3,000m 5-7 hours

Drive from Moshi to the Machame Gate. Trek begins through pristine rainforest.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
3,000m to 3,850m 4-6 hours

Leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone with stunning views.

Day 3: Shira 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco
High: 4,600m Sleep: 3,900m

Crucial Acclimatization Day. Climb high, sleep low.

Day 4: Barranco to Karanga Camp
3,900m to 3,995m 4-5 hours

Conquer the Barranco Wall. Short day for rest.

Day 5: Karanga to Barafu Camp
3,995m to 4,673m 4-5 hours

Reach base camp. Rest for summit night.

Day 6: Summit Day!
Summit: 5,895m

Start at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Descent to Mweka Gate
Certificate Collection

Final descent through forest. Drive back to Moshi.
